あけましておめでとうございます。今年もよろしくお願いします。
大晦日はUNITのカウントダウンイベントで朝まで大爆発。今年は今までのUNITの記録を塗り替える動員があり上へ下への大騒ぎだった。全部終わって家に帰り着いたのはもうお昼すぎ。そこから倒れるように眠って目が覚めたらもう元旦の夜。準備から入れると24時間くらい経ってたので時間的には長かったけど、やることも多かったのであっという間でした。
僕もイベントの最初にDJをしてたけど、いろんな人から電話がかかって来たりするので、片耳ヘッドフォン片耳に携帯っていう訳の分からない状態。その後SHIRO the GOODMAN、露骨KIT、GIO、ZahkmとDJが続いたのですが、気がつくとアナログのレコードを回したのはシロー君だけ。
僕もCDしか使わなかったし、他のDJもみんなCDオンリー。日本人のDJはアナログにこだわってる人がまだ多いけど、ガイジンはCDのみやファイナルスクラッッチ、トラクターといったソフトに乗り換えてる人もかなり多い。
確かにCDだけにしちゃったほうが荷物は遥かに減る。アルバム1枚持って来たってかける曲はその中からせいぜい2、3曲だったりするから、必要な曲だけまとめて焼いておいたりしたほうが便利。それがハードディスク（PC）ってことになれば、ほぼ無限に曲を持って来れるので事前にレコードを選ぶということをしなくてすむ。
ただし、PCだとセットアップまだちょっと大変だったりするから、CDだけというスタイルがここ当分のスタンダードになるでしょうね。今やDJブースにCDプレイヤーがないところはほとんどないし、CDJの性能も上がってるから使う分には遜色ない。
PCにしても恐らく数年のうちには自分のPC（もしくはiPodみたいなハードディスク）を持ってくれば、直接ブースに接続するとターンテーブルをインターフェイスにしてDJが出来るとか、無線LANに接続して曲データが蓄えてあるサーバーに接続、そのままプレイみたいな世界（つまり破損の危険性があるハードディスクなんかももう持ち歩かない）になっていくでしょう。技術もアイデアもみんなあるわけだから、あとはインフラとデバイスのコストが下がって普及するのを待つだけでしょうね。
音源が全てデジタルでアーカイブ化されていくと、レアな音源っていうのはどんどん無くなって、あとはその曲をDJがどういう風に使うかという純粋にアイデアと音楽の知識だけの勝負になる。もう珍しいレコードをたくさん持ってるというだけではDJとしてはやっていけない。
DJのスタイルひとつとってもそうだけど、今年はこれまで水面下で進んで来た音楽のあり方の変容が一気に顕在化するだろうと思います。去年の年末にはEMIから東芝が撤退するとかビクターの身売りとかが話題にもなったし、ナップスターも始まった。恐らく近々iPod携帯も出てくるでしょう。そうなると今までの音楽の仕組みは完全に変わる。
エジソンが蓄音機を発明して、音が蓄えられ複製出来るようになって以来の大変化が訪れようとしている。これはある意味音楽史上の大事件であって、そこに当事者として立ち会ってる訳だからそれを目の当たりに出来るのはとても面白いことだと思います。今年はどんなことになるのやら、楽しみです。
