NYはハドソン河に浮かぶフェリー船上で開催されているパーティ、”ターンテーブルズ・オン・ザ・ハドソン”のレジデントDJニコデマス＆マリアーノが来日し、UNITでのイベントに出演します。このパーティを主催しているニコデマスは人種のるつぼNYらしく、ジャズやアフロビート、中近東から東欧のジプシーミュージック、ラテン、ヒップホップ、ハウスといったあらゆる音楽をごちゃ混ぜにしたスタイルのDJ。パーティではパーカッションや映像を交えたDJをしているらしく面白そうです。

ニコデマス自身の楽曲もジプシーのコンピレーションに収録されてたり、かなり存在自体が雑食な感じ。NYのミクスチャー系といえばバルカン・ビート・ボックスなんかもいますが、音源を聴く限りBBBよりはもう少し洗練されてる感じでしょうか。Giant Stepなんかともかなり交流があるようなので、ちょっとジャズ寄りなアプローチなのかも。彼らのサイトWonderwheel Recordingsでは試聴も出来ます。

ニコデマスのオリジナルアルバムには、アンティバラス・アフロビート・オーケストラのメンバーやグルーヴ・コレクティブ、クオンティックなどが参加しています。グルーヴ・コレクティヴといえば、ジャイアント・ステップからリリースしてたアシッド・ジャズの頃から活動するNYのクラブ・ジャズバンド。10年くらい前に来日もしてて、その時サイレント・ポエツのサポートメンバーとして、渋谷のクアトロで対バンしたこともあります。ちょっと懐かしい。
